I’m always looking for great deals. One of my favorite ways to save money is by buying second-hand clothes. I absolutely love rummage sales, but in Wisconsin that’s not possible in the winter, so I look to other ways to save.
Once Upon A Child, a local retail shop located in Green Bay and Appleton, sells gently used clothing at reasonable prices. I love to shop here for clothes, dancewear, swimwear, Halloween costumes, shoes, and other unique finds.
A few times a year, Once Upon a Child holds a Grab Bag Event where upon entrance you are provided with a plastic bag that you fill with clearance items for $15. What a deal!
The event takes place tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 14 from 9am-8pm at both the Green Bay and Appleton stores.
I find this event particularly amazing for new moms that don’t have a lot of clothes for their infants. There is usually a ton of clothes sizes newborn-18 months that you could fill a bag or two no problem. I’ve even had friends buy clothes in advance so that they had some items ready when baby arrived.
Don’t be discouraged if you child is a little older; there will be items in all kid sizes. I find due to the wear and tear, there just tends to be less during the big sales. So far, I’ve never had a problem filling a bag, and my children are in kids 4 and 5 and toddlers 2T and 5T. I also usually plan ahead and buy some items for the following season in their projected sizes.
This year Once Upon a Child had a presale Monday through Friday where all clearance clothing items were 10 for $10. Since I’ve never experienced the presale, I decided to check it out. As always, I was happy with my finds. I came across several namebrand shirts (including Old Navy, Children’s Place, Gap, and Oshkosh B’Gosh) as well as a brand new jacket from Gymboree that still had tags on it! In total I spent $10.50 with a savings of $51.50. It would be twice that for this many items in the stores.
Keep in mind if you have your own gently used children’s clothes, shoes, books, toys, etc., Once Upon a Child also buys kids items. No need to go through the time and commitment of having a rummage sale.
So, if your child is growing inches in his sleep, and you need to restock the closet with clothes that actually fit, check out tomorrow’s sale. You may just find enough treasures to fill your bag.
