A Breathtaking Journey Up Pikes Peak

An adventurous activity like this was my first thought when starting my blog. I wanted to have amazing journeys everyday, but in reality, during my day-to-day life, I’m not riding up the side of a mountain.

So, when I finally get to write a post like this, it’s difficult to know where to start. This was the last activity we did on my trip to Denver. On a whim, my husband found it online as he was searching for something exciting to do on our last day. The original plan was to hike in the area, but once he saw that he could reach the top of Pike’s Peak in a day, there was no turning back.

Luckily, there were still some spaces left, and we booked a morning time slot on the Pike’s Peak Cog Railway. This trip takes you in a cog 14,115 feet up the side of the mountain! What could be more exhilarating than that?

As you climb higher and higher on the railway, the air gets thinner. You notice this most when you reach the top and have to walk around the peak. The scenery on the way up and down the mountain is stunning.

Once at the top, you are treated to 365 degrees of spectacular views of the Rockies. The photos really don’t do the views justice. It’s breathtaking.

You have about 30-40 minutes to enjoy the scenery. There is a gift shop containing coffee, donuts, trinkets, sweatshirt (because it’s much colder at the top!), and bathroom facilities.

The total trip is around 3 1/2 hours and costs $40 an adult and $22 for kids 3 and up. This is a great trip to do with kids and would be accommodating to those that would be unable to hike long distances. There are only 33 cogs in the world with 3 of those 33 in the US, making this a unique way to travel.

This is such an amazing trip. It should be one of the first things on your list if you visit the Denver/Manitou Springs area. 2017-07-09_13-26-02_000
