A Great Door County Restaurant with Tapas, Specials, and Rustic Atmosphere

Last weekend my husband and I were afforded a night away to destress and enjoy one another’s company. Our favorite getaway is to Door County. And we have some favorite stops on our way.

The original plan was to go to one of our favorite wine bars Vino! Vino! located next to Stone’s Throw Winery, but unfortunately it was not open yet for the season. If you ever get a chance, check it out and order the cheese platter. It will not disappoint!

Thinking on our feet, a friend mentioned a newer establishment: Glacier Ledge. We turned our car around and headed out to find the restaurant, our hunger leading the way.

Once inside, we were seated immediately, and could enjoy the warmth of the stone fireplace as–unlike this weekend which will be 85 to 90 degrees–it was a cool 50 degrees. So very Wisconsin; we are always talking about the weather as it changes at moments notice.  At this point we were pretty hungry, so I ordered a burger with homemade chips. It was the filling, meaty meal I was craving. The burger was good, but the chips really stood out as they were thinly cut with the perfect amount of salt, oil, and crisp. The larger table nearby ordered a second round for the table. Clearly a crowd pleaser.

What really looked great from the menu were some of the tapas. It’s on the future list of things to try. The waiter recommended a steak special with corn relish which made me second guess my order when I saw it delivered to the table next to us, so there were a lot of great options on the menu as well as featured specials with in-season ingredients.

If it were nice, the back patio looked like a beautiful place to have a glass of wine and some tapas.

Attached to the restaurant is a cheese factory where you can view the workers making a fresh assortment of cheese.

Plus, options to buy local meats, cheeses, and beer. This was a fun, impromptu stop on our getaway. If you are ever considering Door County as a destination, it is a fantastic choice. Make a plan to stop over at Glacier Ledge for a bite to eat between stops at all the wineries.
